🦾 Perplexity was ranked the top startup in 2024 by LinkedIn, followed by Ramp, Cohere Health, Headway, and Medallion. The complete list of 50 startups was informed by four pillars: employee growth; jobseeker interest; employee engagement; and how well these startups have pulled talent from leading companies. 🚗 Google’s venture arm just backed Distance Technologies in a funding round that raised $11.1M. The Finnish startup says it can turn any transparent surface—such as a car windshield or plane cockpit—into an augmented-reality display so the operator can view 3D digital objects overlaid on top of the panel they’re viewing. 📉 UK marketing startups have had a rough go lately. According to data from Avid Panda, 31,000 startups operating in the marketing industry have closed down over the past five years – that’s a 42.5% failure rate. Advertising startups were hit the hardest, with a closure rate of nearly 44%. On the other hand, PR and communications startups fared better, with a 37.1% closure rate. [Tech Round]

 


 

👩‍⚕️ Sheryl Sandberg-backed Cercle has raised $6M in a seed funding round led by Outsiders Fund. The AI company, which turns women’s healthcare data into actionable insights, will use the new funding to expand beyond the fertility market. [Fem Tech Insider]

 


 

🍁 Canada’s startup market has hit ‘bottom’ and is starting to rebound, according to early-stage funder Panache Ventures, which uses AI to comb the web for signs of emerging startup. Panache’s data suggest that a little over 800 tech and software startups were launched in Canada in the first half of 2024, up from 625 during the same period last year. [Yahoo Finance]

 


 

🥌 The Curling Group raised $5M in seed funding led by Relay Ventures that aims to broaden the sport’s global reach. [SGB Media]

 


 

💾 Data platform Quorum raised $2M in a seed round that included Crush Ventures and Dudley Fun. [Ad Exchanger]

 


 

💸 Observe, a CA-based SaaS observability company, raised $145M in Series B funding led by Evolution Equity Partners and Madrona Ventures. [finsmes]

 


 

📚 EdTech innovator Highfive raised $250K in seed funding led by Roosh X. [City Biz]

 


 

📊 LiveFlow, a which offers an intelligent finance and accounting automation platform, raised $13.5M in Series A funding led by Valar Ventures. [finsmes]
